Spain offers two red Champions in the beautifully mature, Gran Selección from Valencia – with 16 Golds and a Trophy in just nine vintages and a Triple-Gold, delicious, silky-soft Merlot from the Cariñena region, bursting with cherry and red fruit flavours. In Bordeaux, Jean-Marc Sauboua breaks local rules by using two cuvées of delicious Merlot from two vintages – warm, ripe 2022 and the fresher 2023, for his delicious Le Bourg, while from France’s southern Rhône valley, there’s a luscious, ripe and velvety red with Gold, from the Guillot family’s 4th-generation estate.
Southern Italian winemaker Leonardo Palumbo marries a trio of dark, velvety Puglian grapes – Nero di Troia, Negroamaro and Primitivo for the red he names after himself, and from Portugal there’s the prized bestseliing, remarkable star, Vinna do Fava – a pure Touriga Nacional, with a Trophy, and 34 Golds, Grand Golds and Double Golds in nine vintages.
A stunning international showcase indeed!
