NSW Cool Climate Whites Super-Six
This trio of superb value whites showcases the remarkable quality and value of NSW cool-climate vineyards.
With Gold and 95ts, enjoy a "fabulous Fiano with the perfect mix of flavour, freshness & tension reflecting its cool-climate origins… lovely power, texture and intensity. Good length, with acidity channelling the flavours seamlessly through the palate. 95pts, Great Value” (Halliday).” It’s from the Hunter Valley’s five-star Hungerford Hill but uses high-grown fruit from Hilltops.Next, an impressive Tumbarumba Chardonnay from Jason Brown (of Moppity fame). Jason calls this the flagship wine of his Coppabella enterprise. Fruit from a prized block (Block 10) is used and named Sirius after the brightest star in the constellation. The cool-climate calibre here doesn’t disappoint. The nose is almost prim, with green apple, nectarine and cashew notes, but the crisp acidity on the palate delivers poise and sophistication with grilled peach, pineapple and some nutty complexity.
Lastly, enjoy a mountain-fresh Riesling from the high vineyards of Peter Logan in the region of Orange. Peter’s estate is rated Five Red Stars and for this the grapes are grown at an elevation of greater than 900 metres on the slopes of Mount Canobolas in Orange. Enjoy aromas of mandarin peel, lemon, ice tea, orange blossom and rose, minerally palate has flavours of ripe lime, lemongrass, a touch of apple and a little spice dry juicy with a 'spritzy' freshness.
