Very attractive Pinot Grigio, with nicely balanced acidity and a little weight and texture, from Hunter born-and-bred Aaron Mercer. "One of the most consistent and recommendable pinot grigios coming out of New South Wales. Aaron Mercer understands what the buyer is asking for when they select pinot grigio, the crunch of green apple, fresh and naturally flowing acidity, a dry finish, but with fruit presence throughout. Here, too, is a wine with textural dimension, slightly oily, a spray of salinity and white almond halves, filled with tree fruit. Harmonious and sessionable. 93pts. Aaron Mercer spent years at Tamburlaine, and had stints at Tyrrell’s and Brokenwood, before setting up on his own. He’s also worked in California, France and Germany so brings a great deal of experience to his winemaking, with a great small-batch range from premium Hunter Valley sites, Tumbarumba and Orange. The Mercer site suggests we “enjoy this fine and focussed drop showcasing white flowers, creamy almond nougat and acid crunch. A welcome addition to Summer barbecues with friends.” Thumbs up from us.
