Tyrrell’s 2025 Blacksmiths Hut Heathcote is joined by the 94pt Carlei Green Vineyards 2018, a second Heathcote, with layers of complexity and a long, elegant finish. Then, a pair from SA include the 2024 Alpha Crucis Southern Cross McLaren Vale Shiraz (93 points – Campbell Mattinson) has a nose of plum and dark cherry, hints of pepper and spice and an earthy freshness, and a lovely, velvety mouth feel, bright acidity and savoury notes. Lastly, Thistledown's The Quickening Barossa Shiraz, 2022, another garlanded with 94 points from Halliday, "treads a deft path through an intensity in both nose and palate, starting with dried herbs, blackberry and mulberry and a minerality as you breath in.
