The Wine

d'Arenberg's consistently impressive GSM boasts a raft of high scores to 96pts, and a Gold – as well as critical praise.

For Ken Gargett, WinePilot, it's "A compelling example of the Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre from the McLaren Vale…" and offers: "Lovely drinking for the next ten to twelve years. 94pts.”

Marcus Ellis in The Halliday Wine Companion scores it 95pts, admiring its: "…density of black and ripe red fruits, earth and spice… Cured meats, dried blackberry, tapenade, struck iron, raspberry coulis, poached plums with star anise, cinnamon and clove, it’s a wine that unfurls with time in glass, and a vigorous decant is advised. It’s rugged, but there’s so much on show, and it certainly rewards patience. 95pts.”

d’Arenberg’s Osbourne family are a founding member of Australia’s First Family of Australian Wines, and have a substantial range that can be tasted at their unique and impressive 'Cube' in McLaren Vale. As for the name 'Ironstone Pressings? Most of McLaren Vale's acclaimed and historic vineyards are impregnated with ancient, decomposed laterite granite known as ironstone. Its extraordinary rusty redbrown colour is derived from the iron oxides present in the stone. The larger pieces were cleared from the vineyards in the late 1880's and utilised in many of the buildings at d'Arenberg, most notably the old stables.
