A mighty Barossa Shiraz sourced from a single old vineyard in the Greenock sub region of the Barossa Valley on the Western Ridge. It’s won a slew of high point scores up to a whopping 98! The name hints at the style…“… outstanding weight and plush texture. Mouthfilling..96pts” says Sam Kim Wine Orbit of this mighty Barossa Shirazz boasting scores of 98, 96, 95 and 92 – “Decadent, richly flavoured” says Aaron Brascher in The Real Review, and he goes on: “Juicy, jubey, ripe and plush aromas of plum, spice, cola and charry oak… Plum, charry oak and sweet spice drive this beast.” The name Shanahans Wines is a tribute to John Harris’ family, in particular John's late grandfather James (Jim) Shanahan, who established a broadacre farm in the early 1900’s at Magdala.

Lifted aromas of ripe plums and toasty vanilla lead to silky soft fruit flavours of dark cherries, mulberries, liquorice and dark chocolate. Described by Wine Spectator as one of Australia’s modern classics. East Wing made using fruit from vineyards in the Eden Valley. "Sweetly ripe and instantly appealing, the wine shows blackberry, hazelnut, vanilla, warm spice and dark cocoa aromas, followed by a flavoursome palate delivering excellent weight and ripe fruit intensity. It's plump and supple with a lingering silky finish" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit). Exceptional value.

Wine Summary
The Kaesler family were Silesian immigrants who settled in the Barossa Valley back in 1845, setting out the current vineyards in 1893. Though the family sold up in 1968 the estate is still in tact and bears the family name. Reid Bosward is the winemaker of this fine Shiraz, given 94pts by Dave Brooks in The Halliday Wine Companion. “Another cracker from the excellent 2021 vintage, more along the blueberry and boysenberry fruit line in this wine with abundant spice and hints of dark chocolate, licorice, Christmas cake, roasting meats and violets. Tight, fine sandy tannins lend ample support and the wine trails off nicely with a real meaty, dark-fruited edge.” In the Real Review, Gabrielle Poi calls it: “velvety and suave…tempting and fresh. 91pts.”
