Secret Shiraz Dozen
Save a HUGE $816 (that's 71%) on an outstanding premium Shiraz quartet from South Australia. It includes a 97-point Barossan beauty with an RRP of $200 a bottle and the flagship wine (RRP $95) of a McLaren Vale producer lauded by Halliday, a Single Vineyard Currency Creek (RRP $45) and a multi-Gold, 94pt Adelaide Hills, normally $40 a bottle. An ongoing crisis lies behind this extraordinary deal. The core of the problem is a massive oversupply of wine.
The people who create the wines we love are facing levels of stress, debt pressure and uncertainty not seen in decades. That was the dire warning issued by the Australia Grape and Wine Association (AGW) back in February and, unfortunately, the “deep structural distress” facing the wine industry will take years to resolve. We launched the Secret Cellar series more than four years ago during the Covid pandemic as a way for wineries to sell stock cheaply – and quietly – to avoid their businesses going to the wall in the wake of Beijing’s crippling import tariffs. We did not expect to be offering Secret Cellar deals so many years after China’s tariff shock but we will continue to do our little bit to help our winery partners sell through previous vintages of excellent wines and, in the process, provide you scarcely believable deals.
