The Wine
Schild Estate was established over 60 years ago, when Ben and Alma Schild bought land and a small vineyard in Rowland Flat in the southern part of the Barossa Valley. Ed Schild, the youngest son of Ben and Alma, has since grown the Schild holdings to over 450 acres of prime Barossa vineyards. Schild’s is very much a family affair, and you can still shake hands with family members from three generations at their beautiful cellar door in Lyndoch. In 2009, Ed realised his dream of producing estate-made wines by building the Schild’s ‘Valley of Hope’ winery. Fruit from select parcels of Schild vineyards including ‘Workshop’, ‘Angus Brae’, ‘Narrow Road’ and ‘Three Springs’ were used to make this mighty Barossa Shiraz. It’s inky black, incredibly intense, with a good dose of charry oak and a powerfully rich, luscious, long finish. Show judges have given it three Gold and Double Gold. Huon Hooke calls it “a generous, lush, hedonistic wine” . Try it for yourself - it's magnificent.
