The Wine
Sporting a gold medal from the 2016 Berliner Wein Trophy, Marqués de Villanueva showcases the power and flavor intensity that Cariñena’s old-vine grapes are famous for. (Because the vines themselves struggle to grow, they produce lower yields of tiny grapes, which are dense and packed with character – qualities that pay off big in your glass.) Here, you’ll taste a classic Spanish marriage of Tempranillo (star red grape of Rioja) and Garnacha (aka Grenache in France). Marcelo hand harvested the grapes and gave the wine a 12-month slumber in oak barrels.
