If you’re lucky enough to get the chance to visit the picturesque Barossa Valley cellar door of Pindarie Estate, which has won major tourism awards, you will likely marvel at the remarkable panoramic views, enjoy some fine local produce and if you’re really lucky taste the estate’s 2012 Western Ridge Shiraz.
We can’t offer you the views and the menu, but this seriously well made and flavour-packed Shiraz can be yours today with a remarkable saving. James Halliday awarded it 94 points, loving its: “Deep colour … it is steeped with blackberry, bitter dark chocolate and licorice on the bouquet and medium to full-bodied palate…”
Pindarie stands at the western gateway to the Barossa Valley. Its owners, Tony Brooks and Wendy Allan met at the prestigious Roseworthy College. Tony, a sixth generation farmer in SA and WA, was studying agriculture; New Zealand-born Wendy viticulture. She worked in vineyards all over the wine world before she and Tony set about restoring a run-down farm and creating their beautiful Pindarie Estate.
Savour this superb 2012 vintage Shiraz today with a herby roast lamb. Alternatively, as James Halliday suggests, its “seriously good tannins and a gentle kiss of French oak complete a wine that will generously repay extended cellaring”.
