Wine Summary
If you love the BIG reds of Puglia, you will love this! Copertino is a tiny DOC enclave right in the heel of Italy, in the sun-drenched Puglia area. If you like the dark, baked fruit flavours of southern Italian reds, this Negroamaro really tops the bill – and then some! It's made by the talented Marco Flacco. He's a master of the big red, but here he has really surpassed himself. He vinified the main batch, but for extra power and intensity, he let a portion of the grapes ripen longer on the vine and then fermented them separately. The main wine is then 'repassed' over the grape skins from the longer hang portion to start a second fermentation. The result is a more intense, punchy and weighty style. It's much like Ripasso they use in the north and the results are decadently rich, intense and spicy. Open early and decant for best effect, then serve with grilled meats or a hearty Italian style casserole like <i. agnello e patate al forno </i> (roast lamb and potatoes.)
