Wine Summary
The ‘Penley Estate’ name was created in 1945 when the members of two winemaking families (Penfolds & Tolley) married. Their children, Kym, Ang and Bec Tolley turned the dream into a reality in 1988, establishing a premium vineyard and winery in Coonawarra. Much to their delight, their first wine, the Phoenix Cabernet won Gold at the Adelaide Wine Show, and today the estate is renowned for its “succession of rich, complex wines” (Halliday). Ang and Bec now run Penley, with the extremely talented Kate Goodman ex Wirra Wirra, Tim Knappstein and Seppelt) heading the winemaking team, and Ang’s husband one of our foremost viticulturists, David Paxton, acting as a consultant. Enjoy classic Coonawarra flavours – fleshy cassis and plum, earthy undertones, compelling hints of spicy nutmeg and cinnamon, all balanced with supple tannins.
