This satisfying mix of luscious Aussie Shiraz brings together many of your favourite labels, including Angove, Willow Bridge, Byron & Harold, Deep River, the Marauding Vintners, and more, for an impressive $14.99 a bottle. Stock up!
There is something a little magical about Australian Shiraz. All that luscious, dark and velvety Shiraz fruit, enhanced by signature savoury spice and power. This one comes from the makers of our bestselling Black Pig. Indeed, the piglets on the label are the descendents of the original Black Pig, Tanuki, and still roam the paddocks today. The rich and ripe 16 Little Black Pigs Shiraz is filled with plum, blackberry and cherry flavours with hints of black pepper and eucalypt. This is a wine that you can drink on its own but will be equally good with food.
The Great Southern wine region lies along the Southern Ocean on Western Australia’s south coast. Stretching 150 km (93 miles) north to south from Western Australia’s south coast and 100 km (62 miles) east to west, it is the largest wine-growing region in mainland Australia. “It’s the hidden gem of Australian wine,’’ says Paul Byron, who’s been making highly rated wines in Great Southern since launching his Byron & Harold label to considerable acclaim 12 years ago. And, as an alternative to neighbouring Margaret River, the Great Southern is home to exquisite wines of exceptional value. In the Chapter & Verse Shiraz, 5 Red Star Halliday-rated Byron & Harold have crafted a scintillating Shiraz that's at once toasty, soft and lingering. Plums and black fruit to the fore, while white pepper and anise sustain the wine's complexity.
Estate grown on a spectacular hillside vineyard in the Ferguson Valley of the Geographe wine region. The fruit for this immaculate Dragonfly is sourced from 1998 plantings on 5 Red Star-rated Willow Bridge's north-facing Forrest, Jarrah and Blinman blocks. Dragonfly Shiraz is an expression of the juicy and generous varietal blackberry and blueberry fruits they attain in the Ferguson Valley, complemented by fine tannin and supporting French oak.
Those Marauding Vintners know exactly where to find the best wines and biggest characters! When they introduced us to Chairman Shiraz, customers loved him and he scooped Gold at his first appearance. Well, he's done it again this vintage, too, with Gold at Gilbert & Gaillard International: "Youthful, deep red colour. Intense nose of red fruit combined with a touch of woody minerality ... Enjoy with grilled meats" (show judges). As the back label will tell you, “the self-styled Chairman" is after all "the big man of Australian wine whose power is recognised and respected around the world. Power he might have in spades, but you can’t overlook the charm. Bring him to the table and he’s sure to win over the guests...” This is Langhorne Creek Shiraz with heft – ripe red and black fruit, spice and toasty oak persistence.
When you open a Blackstrap, you know you’re heading into seriously dark, rich red territory. It’s from McLaren Vale, so it shows all that inky, chocolatey, deep black fruit richness the region is known for. A generous lashing of oak offers depth and structure, and fine tannins ride the wave of flavour to a satisfying finish. It’s an ultra-velvety, lipstaining, powerful red that you need to approach carefully. Decant early and serve with shredded slow-cooked beef tacos
5 Red Star Angove is one of Australia's oldest family owned wineries, founded in 1886. They have access to some of the finest fruit in the 'big red' regions of South Australia's Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. This Limited Release Shiraz has been carefully crafted from grapes grown in blocks in the Stockwell area to the north of the Barossa region, Bethany in the south and Angaston to the east. Upon arriving at Angove's 110-year-old winery, the Shiraz grapes were gently destemmed and placed in small open fermenters. The wine was carefully plunged and pumped over twice daily to coax colour and flavour from the skins. The resulting Shiraz reflects Angove's philosophy of letting the Barossa Valley soils and environment express themselves through the wine (with some subtle American oak characters too!).This Barossa beauty is powerfully rich, plush, velvety and intense... serve it with your finest cuts of meat.
