The judges at China's Wine & Spirits Awards were impressed by this rich, spicy Shiraz, unanimously awarding it a Gold. It’s from John Quarisa, who for many years made wine for the biggest names in Oz, winning both the Jimmy Watson and Stodart Trophies. Today, with the help of his wife Josephine, he crafts winners like this. ‘Passion is Everything’ is their motto, and, after just over a decade in operation, their winery in New South Wales boasts four stars from Aussie wine guru James Halliday. He describes the “exceptional value for money provided by the wines” and is full of praise for this red. It’s deliciously easy going, but still packs a punch of luscious ripe fruit. A sure bet for a bbq, a roast or a hearty bake.

Steve Grimley's lavish, hand-crafted, spare-no-expense wines gain an almost instant cult-like following the minute they’re released. Taste this impeccable single vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz from 100+ year old vines and see why. It’s dark with piercing bright hues. On the nose, the aromatics are a touch subdued, in a brooding sort of way but they reveal themselves fully in the glass. The palate is deeply luscious, shot through with black fruit, chocolate and spice. It’s intense … but we’re not sure if Steve Grimley does it any other way!

The premium grapes selected for the Fossilbed Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 were from vineyards planted in the ancient soils of the Limestone Coast. Stretching from the Victorian border to the Younghusband Peninsula in South Australia, the Limestone Coast is one of Australia's most versatile wine growing regions. Settled since the early 1840s, much of the region was submerged by sea as recently as 2 million years ago. The deep limestone deposits created by coral and ancient sealife are now home to Australia's most important source of fossils and are classified as a World Heritage site. This handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon balances rich and lush black fruit (cassis and plum) with vanillin baking spice oak. Ready to enjoy now, but has the hallmarks of a wine which can cellar for a few years.

Wine Summary

One of our lovely team members, Sandra, came up with the concept for this label when we mentioned a classy new wine was on the way. The photograph was taken by her father of her stunningly beautiful mother Winsome, which they keep in an album referred to as The Notebook. This is the kind of wine you open on the verandah of a holiday house by the water somewhere with good food and great friends! Aromatic and approachable – everything you want in a tempting Tempranillo. Redcurrant and plum with a touch of savouriness, making it ideal with tapas.
