The Fleurieu Peninsula is a diverse and exciting coastal region of South Australia. The loose sandy soil and cooling maritime breezes are perfect for growing savoury, aromatic Shiraz with great fruit intensity. Made using traditional techniques, with the aim of expressing our unique microclimate, this is a fresh, lightly oaked Shiraz with a vibrant, generous mid-palate that finishes uninterrupted and long. A great 'food wine' in its youth and with careful cellaring it will mature well over the next 3-5 years.

An elegant and balanced expression of Margaret River Shiraz. Vibrant red currant and cherry aromas lift from the glass, leading to a palate of juicy sweet red fruits, sweet vanilla, baking spice and a hint of mocha. The Fidium, Moss Brother’s flagship, was matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new). There's plenty of spice here plus a velvety, plush mouthfeel, with fine tannins. Brilliant value here. In 1920, wine lover Reg Purbrick was offered a glass of brandy from Château Tahbilk. Five years later, he purchased the property unseen! Reg's son Eric inherited his father's love of wine and, during the Great Depression, he gave up a law degree to decamp to Oz and take up the reins at Tahbilk. Three generations later, Hayley Purbrick is in charge of sustainability, while her father, Alistair, runs the estate. Since 1995, they've looked hard at sustainability and are just one of 8 wineries worldwide to be classified carbon neutral. Their 160 hectares of regenerated wetland and native vegetation are beneficial to the climate, as well as offering trails for all to enjoy. They also boast Shiraz vines dating to 1860. This classic and uniquely Australian blend is awash with red fruit, spice and savoury notes “… ever-reliable… positively so” says Jane Faulkner in The Halliday Wine Companion. Huon Hooke in The Real Review adds that it is "elegantly crafted… An elegant thoroughbred with some cool-climate attributes. Extra Value here".

20 years ago, a lightbulb moment resulted in the creation of RedHeads by Tony and Tom Laithwaite. It was a no-gimmicks, no-rules cellar where young, talented (and rebellious) winemakers could moonlight and make small-batch wines that really rocked their boat. Growers started bringing in pick-up loads of their best grapes they wanted 'rescuing' from the mega-blends. RedHeads winemakers began to gain a reputation as the ‘Robinhood of grapes’ – saving parcels to make into handcrafted wines. So popular, the cellar outgrew its original home and, for a few years, it moved from shed to shed. Finally it bought its own vineyard and built a state-of-the-art, off-grid, solar-powered eco winery. RedHeads by name, green by nature, with awards galore.

Wine Summary

One of our very own team members came up with the concept for this lovely label. The photograph, taken by her father of her stunningly beautiful mother Winsome, is kept in a family album referred to as The Notebook. It's a reminder to never take life too seriously and enjoy every moment. Our newest wine in the range, The Notebook Shiraz, is crafted to leave complicated at the door – a full expression of dark fruits and spice with a hint of vanilla. Share it around over a plate of pasta, crusty bread and let summer take its course.
