Click through to see the full impressive line-up. $16.99 a bottle, saving you $112.
As the Blue Pyrenees estate's website states "the climate is warm enough to provide concentration and power, yet cool enough to impart vibrancy and elegance, and the resulting wines are truly remarkable.”
This is an impressive, smooth and very appealing 58/32/5/5% Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec Cabernet Franc blend from high altitude vines. ”Blackcurrant, toast, fragrant herbs and eucalyptus with cedar oak pulling it all together. This will age beautifully, thanks mostly to its balance, its harmony and its length” writes Campbell Mattinson, scoring it 94pts in The Halliday Wine Companion.
Howard Park's Margaret River SBS blend has impressed both the critics and us many times before. Sam Kim Wine Orbit gives this 2023 93pts, Jane Faulkner in The Halliday Wine Companion gives it 92pts, pointing out its excellent value and calling it "Really perky and juicy yet neatly balanced with refreshing acidity". It is as she also says "A very good drink".
Around the turn of the century Frank Mitolo turned his winemaking hobby into a business, inviting legendary winemaker Ben Glaetzer in to make the wines. Today it boasts a wide range of good quality wines, and a tasting room, restaurant and event space that cost $3 million. This 2020 Jester Shiraz has several 90+ scores and you will enjoy: "Dark cherry, plum, lilac, iodine, a smear of olive and a trail of peppery freshness. Thoroughly impressive at the price.” (Ned Goodwin MW, The Halliday Wine Companion).
Established in 1972, Mountadam High Eden Estate is one of Australia’s oldest cool climate Chardonnay vineyards. Situated on a unique rocky outcrop the estate commands an easterly aspect over Eden Valley. The fruit was picked in the cool of night at optimum maturity using a selective destemming harvester. Chilled and pressed and fermented in seasoned puncheons and a 2,500 L French oak Fouderie Francois cask with regular lees stirring. The emphasis in the cuvee was to select a single block from the Estate that expressed beautiful purity of fruit, minerality with oak only playing a gently supportive role. Another delightful release from winemaker Caitlin Brown.
It has been an exceptional few years for Bleasdale, after winning two of the Australian wine industry's most coveted trophies, Paul Hotker being awarded the Halliday 'Winemaker of the Year 2018', and then crowned 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards – Winery of the Year. Owned by the Potts family who have made wine here for over 170 years. Frank Potts created a system of locks and weirs to provide flood irrigation from inception in 1850, and Bleasdale's Bremerview vineyard still uses that system.” (Halliday). This outstanding Shiraz has four Golds, 95 Halliday points and Great Value Shiraz – “ridiculously good value at this price” (Halliday).
93pt, beautifully mature Margaret River classic from “a superlative vintage” (Ned Goodwin MW, The Halliday Wine Companion), but Ned continues: “…what sets Thompson Estate's wines apart is their understated confidence. The fruit, a jubilant chorus of Cabernet's choir, singing currant, graphite and bay leaf. Merlot provides some juicy fill and Malbec (7%) and Franc (6%) some aromatic high tones.” From a Margaret River Estate set up by cardiologist Peter Thompson in 1997, who planted the first vines.
Knappstein is a famous name in the Clare Valley, and the estate has some wonderful mature vineyards to draw upon for its impressive wines. The limey, lovely, zesty Rieslings are a particular speciality (as you would expect of this world famous Riesling region!) Made with estate vineyards from vines between 10 and 30 years old, this Gold-medal 2022 is a scintillating and zingy treat - a perfect match to fresh oysters. The Halliday Wine Companion's Mike Bennie, who praises its "hallmark, lime, ginger and green apple" ... finding it "really pleasing and distinct".
There is unsurprising complexity in the wealth of flavours and additional 'extras' in this unusual blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Cabernet. Ned Goodwin MW The Halliday Companion calls it "Effortless drinking” complimenting its blue and red fruit and notes of herb and tobacco. He's not alone in praising the blend: “Deep, darkly red/purple colour. The bouquet shows meaty, earthy and subtly spiced dark plums, the palate rich and dense, with thickness of texture and a trace of chew on the finish. A more savoury style and a worthy contrast to its stablemate Shiraz Mataro.” Huon Hooke, The Real Review. Inventive and satisfying.
It has been an exceptional few years for Bleasdale, after winning two of the Australian wine industry's most coveted trophies, Paul Hotker being awarded the Halliday 'Winemaker of the Year 2018', and then, crowned 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards – Winery of the Year. As this fine release shows, the estate handle the shade of pink very nicely. “Crushed and chilled before pressing, cool fermentation in stainless-steel tank to dryness and short maturation on light lees before early bottling. Very pale but bright salmon pink; distinct peonies on the bouquet, then a crisp, clean and dry palate built on citrus and strawberries. 92pts. Great Value.” James Halliday. Abslutely delightful Langhorne Creek pink from Halliday’s Winery of the Year 2024 with a Trophy and Gold to its name as well, What more could you ask for.
Tscharke are leading the way with organic wines that reflect the terroir and the personality of the fruit. In their high scoring Shiraz Shiraz Shiraz, which uses fruit from three separate vineyards in the Barossa sub region of Marananga, they bring to life aromas of blueberry and plum with a vibrant fresh quality, while an underlying gamey and dusty savouriness complements the fruit. The palate is explosive and juicy with cherry, plum and forest berries, supported by hints of spices that stretch into the textural finish. Well balanced structure thanks to the crunchy acidity, full body and fine tannins. It boasts scores of 94 and 92pts.
Julie and Jamie Helyar's False Cape links 3rd generation Kangaroo Island farmers with the brilliant Follett family of Langhorne Creek. Jane's brother is none other than Lake Breeze's Greg Follett, who crafts the wines for False Cape. It's no wonder this is so good. “It's built on tropical fruit and lemongrass-like flavour but the gentleness of the texture does not go unnoticed. This is an excellent option if you're looking for a fruit-driven, well-made white wine. 92pts, Great Vlaue,” Campbell Mattinson, The Halliday Wine Companion.
A 91pt, Great Value delight from the pictureaque Adelaide Hills and the Lloyd Brothers estate "refreshing and pure in its feel. A delicate, seaside kind of white with lemon blossom, kiwi fruit and briny scents. Offers flavours of more kiwi, some lime and soft mandarin-like sweet-sour characters. There's a good extension of flavour and a pleasing, saline minerality through the finish. You can see oysters in its future. It's a great wee drink..." Mike Bennie, The Halliday Wine Companion.
