No wonder a number of key players have established cellars there. In its short life so far, Schroeder Estate in Patagonia has won many awards, including ‘Winery of the Year 2006’. The estate’s soil is light and stony, there is plenty of snow melt for irrigation, and biting winds result in the sort of thick skinned grapes that are ideal for structured reds. Partly oaked, this Malbec partners roast beef or barbecued steaks perfectly.
