Start out in Western Australia, with the memorably labelled, Gold medal-Salomé from Vinaceous wines, a pure Tempranillo of alluring red berry flavours, and also the lip-smacking, juicy blend from Margaret River’s great Forester Estate. Order of Australia recipient, Bill Calabria in his succulent ‘The Little Italian’, and See Saw from cool climate Orange illustrate how well Sangiovese and Pinot Noir respectively do in pink. Head to the Adelaide Hills for newcomer Avera, which offers an explosion of thirst-quenching fresh red fruit tones – strawberry, raspberry, cherry and redcurrant. Lastly, Patronus ‘The Doe’ is a rip-snorting South Australian Rosé full of ripe red fruits and zesty, dry finish. It’s lovely with pizza, pasta, schnitzels and burgers – it will even take on a steak and win.
