Wine Summary
Established in 1972, Mountadam Vineyards was founded by the late David Wynn, one of the most significant contributors to the Australian Wine Industry. Defined by its cool climate, ancient soils and later ripening, Eden Valley wines are distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse. Mountadam Vineyards are situated 550 metres above sea level - hence the ‘Five Fifty’ name. (Not, as a colleague suggested, as the best time to open a bottle of wine!) In order to increase complexity a parcel of this wine was barrel fermented and returned to tank after fermentation. Post fermentation the wine was lees stirred in tank for 10 weeks, prior to stabilisation and blending. It has lifted ripe honey dew melon characters, underlying peach and hints of lemon. The wine has lashings of stone fruit and citrus on the palate. It has a round mid-palate and a bright citrus like finish.
