Wine Summary
Founded by Bernard Dampt in 1980, this fine estate is now run by his sons Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé. They have won numerous top medals and also ‘Chablis Young Winemaker of the Year’. Their wines always have a lovely purity of fruit and superb intensity, and their Tonnerre white and Petit Chablis are particularly accessible early on. Plus, very good value. This Tonnerre is named after a colourful local character, Charles Geneviève Louis d’Eon de Beaumont, aka the Chevalier d’Eon, who in the 18th century became famous for his cross dressing disguises, as he conducted secret negotiations with the Russian Empress Elizabeth or as a spy for King Louis XV. Serve gently chilled as an apéritif or with creamy sauced white meats, seafood or asparagus.
