Abundant aromas of summer berries, herbs and soft spice introduce a silky palate flowing with red cherries, earthy, savoury notes and a hint of orange
Winemaker Bryan Currie has been hunting for the best pinot noir and chardonnay grapes around the foothills of the Snowy Mountains near Tumbarumba for 20 years. "It’s taken a long time to get my head around Tumbarumba wine – it’s a truly unique place." His Hungerford Hill Tumbarumba Pinot Noir 2021 was recently awarded the Trophy for Best Young Red Wine at the Tumbarumba Wine Show, on top of a Gold medal. Abundant aromas of summer berries, herbs and soft spice introduce a silky palate flowing with red cherries, earthy, savoury notes and a hint of orange zest. Refreshing natural acidity forms the backbone, driving a depth of flavour to a lingering finish. Lovely drinking now but could cellar for 10 years.

From the southern end of New Zealand's North Island (near Wellington), the Martinborough wine region is well know for its high quality and much sought-after Pinot Noir, like this one from Palliser Estate. 38% of the fruit comes from their Clouston Vineyard, 60% from Pencarrow, and the balance from their other top performing estate vineyards. Leads with aromas of tart strawberry and red currant, with violets, cloves and vanilla in the background. Delicate fruit-driven style, with touches of savouriness; silky tannins and gentle acidity. Decant for an hour before drinking. "Early release pinot noir with gentle floral, violet, black cherry, raspberry, anise, spice and subtle fresh herb flavours. A charming, accessible, simple, easy-drinking wine" (Bob Campbell, The Real Review)... "Sweetly fruited and youthfully charming, the wine shows red cherry, plum, floral and subtle spice notes on the nose, leading to a beautifully rounded palate that's supple and succulent. It's elegantly flavoursome and soothing with a lengthy juicy finish... 91pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit).

Winemaker Steve Grimley knows how to tell a good story. He's famous for his long yarns. His Pinot Noir also tells a story, of varietal, place and vintage – it's a full-flavoured expression of Pinot Noir brilliance. Red cherry flavours drive the palate, with wild herbs and spices singing along. Heavier palate weight than many Pinots; bursting with freshness. A reminder that the Adelaide Hills is among the top echelon of Australian regions for Pinot production. The finish is delicate, with lingering savoury florals of lavender and soft tannins.
