Scored 94pts in the Halliday Wine Companion, where Erin Larkin described the wine as “perfectly poised for our climate and food” and giving off a “pleasant, sun-drenched hay vibe that most of us can only imagine”. It’s a beautiful crisp wine: white flowers and fresh citrus on the nose, leading to light floral, citrus and apple flavours and a touch of sea salt on the long finish. There’s a clean mineral texture to this wine which is utterly refreshing – especially alongside fish and chips on a sunny day. Sam Barry has mentioned the Assyrtiko is ageing beautifully as well, having recently drawn down some back-vintages from 2017.

Villa Broglia is a star of Gavi, sipped over the years by diplomats, politicians, even popes. It's from an exceptional family estate with vines in the
Gavi is a buzz word among lovers of Italian whites, and the mineral, citrus crispness of Villa Broglia Gavi is exceptionally fine. Records show the estate’s Piedmont vineyards date from AD 972. Originally called La Meirana, the property was purchased by textile entrepreneur Bruno Broglia in 1972. His vineyards lie in the ‘classico’ part of the region, where the hand-harvested Cortese vineyards enjoy ‘best of the best’ Gavi di Gavi status. The family’s wines regularly score 90 points or more, and three bicchieri (top rating) from Gambero Rosso. Bruno’s sons Paolo and Piero are delighted with the 2020. It’s a racy, dry classic, showing pristine floral and almond character. Enjoy with antipasti, panfried lemon sole or lemon and herb chicken.

James Suckling
If you're fond of the crisp, citrusy notes of Sauvignon, try this new release for size. It's from Rueda in NW Spain, the leading white grape of which
Last vintage this cracking white scored 91 points from James Suckling, who loved its "attractive fruit and delicious finish." We think you will too in this excellent vintage 2020. It's from Serrada in the heart of Rueda and a third-generation family estate, who completed a new winery in 2005. The team go to great lengths to ensure the wine retains maximum fruit and freshness. Night harvesting is essential in a region where daytime summer temperatures reach 35° (even at 700 metres altitude) and drop 20° at night to a chilly 15°. Cool fermentation and three months ageing on its fine lees is the perfect recipe for this characterful white, zippy and citrusy fresh, yet with rounded creamy weight too. A great apéritif; top with seafood.
