Finally, Taylor’s always exciting Heritage Label Clare Valley Cabernet is one to savour. Gold Medal Australian Reds BULK DEAL + FREE Magnum Case contents
It has been an exceptional few years for Bleasdale, after winning two of the Australian wine industry's most coveted trophies, Paul Hotker being awarded the Halliday 'Winemaker of the Year 2018', and now, Bleasdale have been crowned 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards – Winery of the Year. Their delightful Gold-winning, 92pt Bremerview Langhorne Creek Shiraz. It is "… bright and fresh…. Attractive price!... 92pts. Value Star" (James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion), and invites you in with aromas of plums and mulberries, as well as hints of milk chocolate and vanilla. Soft fruit-driven palate, with a savoury edge of green olive, soft tannins and fresh acidity driving through to a lingering finish. Matured in French oak (10% new) for 12 months.
The story of Chalk Hill starts in 1839 when John Harvey arrived in Adelaide, which was then a three-year-old colony of just 6,000 people. Today, Chalk Hill has five vineyards across McLaren Vale, including the Chalk Hill vineyard that was planted in 1969. They pick the Europa Shiraz from multiple blocks, each harvested separately for an extra layer of selectivity. Fermented and matured in seasoned French oak and stainless steel tanks before blending. Juicy red and blue fruits are lifted further by black pepper and vanillin notes. Medium to full bodied. Infinitely approachable.
Sourced from Juniper Estate's Wilyabrup vineyard, Metricup site and Karridale vineyard, all of which are sustainably farmed following organic practices. Winner of a Gold medal and scoring 95pts at Royal Melbourne, the Crossing Original Red displays aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and cherry with a lick of cassis and a red liquorice twist. Oak contributes subtle cedar and vanilla hints. Medium to full-bodied and silky in the mouth – the palate is driven by bright, juicy red fruits and a hint of dark chocolate. Impeccably balanced acid, discreet oak, glossy tannins and remarkable length. " Compelling!... 90pts. Value Star" (Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion).
Those Marauding Vintners know exactly where to find the best wines and biggest characters! When they introduced us to Chairman Shiraz, customers loved him and he scooped Gold at his first appearance. Well, he's done it again this vintage, too, with Gold at Gilbert & Gaillard International: "Youthful, deep red colour. Intense nose of red fruit combined with a touch of woody minerality ... Enjoy with grilled meats" (show judges). As the back label will tell you, “the self-styled Chairman" is after all "the big man of Australian wine whose power is recognised and respected around the world. Power he might have in spades, but you can’t overlook the charm. Bring him to the table and he’s sure to win over the guests...” This is Langhorne Creek Shiraz with heft – ripe red and black fruit, spice and toasty oak persistence.
Taylors are a founding member of Australia’s First Family of Wines and are “managing to do for the Clare Valley what Peter Lehmann did for the Barossa” with “a rich haul of Trophies and Golds at all price points” (Halliday). Bill Taylor, grandfather of the current custodian, Mitchell, first set foot on the estate on the same day that Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon, in 1969. Three generations later, Taylors has a worldwide reputation for excellence. They've also been voted one of the Top 5 Wineries in the World (for the fourth successive year). The award comes from the World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wines and Spirits (WAWWJ) who combine the results of the top 75 International Wine contests across five continents. In fact, in 2018 the estate was rated the ‘No. 1 Most Awarded Winery in the World’ by this body. Look forward to subtle aromas of cedar and dark chocolate, great intensity with distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
Matured in American oak, the Black Duck Durif is full bodied and smooth with layers of spicy fruit. It's made by Sam Trimboli, whom many customers will know from his days at Warburn Estate, where he collected hundreds of awards for his legendary skills. During that time he developed an obsession for the obscure Durif, a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”, as he describes it. The Durif grapes for this wine come from a small vineyard that Sam helped establish in the 1980s. It’s now at peak maturity. Sam adds a small portion of punchy spice Petit Verdot for extra complexity and dark berry intensity. Perfect with chargrilled steak or strong cheeses, or as a warming glass solo.
Small World is the fun, loud sister winery of Miles From Nowhere. They only debuted in 2021, but they are already winning medals from all around the world. For their Gold-winning 2020 vintage Shiraz Cabernet, Small World focused their attention on the Great Southern to provide deep but intensely fruity Shiraz. Mostly dry grown in excellent, low yielding conditions. The Cabernet was primarily sourced from Geographe, where Cabernet can fully ripen to develop silky friendly tannins. Each parcel of fruit is fermented separately with daily tasting to best tailor the extraction and length of time on skins. French and Hungarian oak for a period of 9 to 15 months. Experience aromas of black cherry, clove spice with hints of red currants and chocolate. What follows is a delicious palate of blackberries, dark cherries and chocolate, all married together with savoury oak and spice. Beef cheeks and roast beetroot to pair.
